The Hiestand Family’s Adoption Journey |

Just talked to Teresa

11.10.2006 /

I had written Teresa an email a few days ago asking her to contact me just to give us an update on how things were looking. And the last two days we have been playing phone tag, but we finally got in touch with eachother today. She said that there were a few different reasons referrals have been taking so long… the first being the open family list. I think I had explained this before but I will just do a little re-fresher. There are three lists; open, requesting a boy and requesting a girl. And when an “open” family comes along, they technichally get put at the top of the list so that they have a fair shot of either getting referred a girl or boy. She said for some reason there was a huge amount of open familes that came along which slowed things down for us. And most of those open familes were getting the boy referrals, because the majority of the babies born lately have been boys. She said that both of those things are slowing down and there is only one open family ahead of us right now. And from the way it looks, they will be getting a girl. So again, it could be anytime, unless an open family becomes paper ready. But Teresa said she would let us know if that was going to happen, and we have the option of switching to “open”. She said the chances of us still getting a boy are still very good, but there is always still that chance of getting a girl. So, if it looks like things are still going to take a while, Todd and I will talk and pray about possibly switching to open. So, that is the latest on where we are. I will be sure to post as soon as I hear from Teresa and we have decided if we are going to stick with requesting a boy, or go with the open list. I hope that all made sense. It did in my head, but I’m not sure if it’s easy to follow as I type it out. Either way, things are looking up again, and I feel a ton better after talking to her. Please be praying that we will get the referral very very soon!
